1976, in Buffalo, New York, Genesis began their first North American tour since Peter Gabriel left the band, with Phil Collins taking over as lead singer.



2005, after playing a warm-up date the night before at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, U2 kicked off their Vertigo tour at the iPay One Center in San Diego. The 131-date world tour would see the band playing in North America, Europe, South America and Japan. By the time it finished, the Vertigo Tour had sold 4,619,021 tickets, grossing $389 million — the second-highest figure ever for a world tour.

1968, the Otis Redding single “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay” went gold in the U.S. three months after the singer was killed in a plane crash.



1971, Jim Morrison arrived in Paris, booking into the Hotel George V. The following week he moved into an apartment at 17 Rue Beautreillis where he lived in until his death on 3 July.

2005, The front door of Ozzy Osbourne’s childhood home in Lodge Road, Aston, Birmingham went up for auction on eBay because the current owner was fed up with fans defacing it. Ali Mubarrat was giving the proceeds to charity.

2008, Madonna was inducted into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by singer Justin Timberlake at a star-studded ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York. The 49-year-old thanks her detractors in her acceptance speech, including those “who said I couldn’t sing, that I was a one hit wonder.”
