L.A. & The Summit w/ 30 Seconds to Mars

I call this the trip to Heaven and Hell. L.A. couldn't have been more of an amazing time, but my travel home was terrible with missed flights, closed airports, 5 hour runway waits in a plane, sleeping in an airport and finally getting home a day after I was supposed to. I am so glad to be home.

So, the big reason I went out to SoCal was for The Summit with my boys in 30 Seconds to Mars. It was the finale of my trip and it was an unbelievable experience.

We were able to help the band record material for their 3rd album that they are working on with legendary producer Flood (see his Wikipedia entry). It was a long day that lasted from 2pm until almost 9pm but was worth every second. I am beyond stoked to be a part of this band's new record and I cannot wait to hear their new songs in full. We were able to hear snippets of what they are working on and I have to say -- the boys are on the mark. The shit sounds good yo! Jared also did a couple of acoustic songs that we are all familiar with as a bonus which we loved.

As if all of that wasn't cool enough I was able to meet a TON of new people as well as see a lot of my other friends that I have gotten to know over the years while promoting this band and I couldn't have been more excited about that. These people have become part of my life in more ways than one and to get to "share air" with them was sweet. I only wish we all had more time to hang out and revel in it all.

So, yeah. Pretty fantastic.

I was also able to have some fun while there going to a few hot spots and taking the cliche Hollywood double decker bus tour which was pretty cool. It was a complete and total blast.

Special thanks goes out to Shawn for getting my booty out there. If it wasn't for her making it possible for me to go I would've been sitting in Nebraska missing it all. You rock lady.

The following are some media from my trip and The Summit. Enjoy!

KORN Interview from The Grand Island Independent

From the interview by Mark Coddington:
The relentless partying in Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu’s life has been replaced by faith and family.

But the longtime bassist for the rock band Korn is quick to assure you that the group hasn’t lost a bit of its edge.

“I’m playing harder and tighter and better because I feel so good and have so much energy,” Fieldy said Wednesday from his home in Laguna Hills, Calif.

Fieldy and the rest of the band will bring that energy to a show at the Heartland Events Center next Thursday, April 30.

30 Seconds to Mars Collaboration

From Jared Leto:
THE SECRET IS OUT...

So, as you may have heard, I, along with a small contigency of studio tanned soldiers took a short expedition to Hawaii and spent a not so tropical but nontheless fun filled weekend locked down in the studio working with Mr. West.

Kanye sang on a song I wrote called HURRICANE for our new 30 SECONDS TO MARS record and we experimented and explored on some other ideas as well. It was great. And he sounds amazing on the song. We may not have brought back any island tans but we did bring back the final track and it was an unforgettable trip.

P.S. Brandon Flowers is the nicest guy on the planet and has a great sense of direction. We may not have found our way home that night without him. Thanks Brandon.

P.P.S. We hope to see you all on Sunday, April 26th in Hollywood, CA for "The Summit" at... THE AVALON More details coming.

We have many more secrets and surprises that we can't wait to share with you.....sooooooon

Conor Oberst's Documentary

From CauseCast.org Post:
"In 2008, Conor Oberst, known throughout the indie music scene as Bright Eyes, traveled to Mexico to record a solo album. He ended up forming The Mystic Valley Band, whose first album, Outer South, will be released May 5 on Merge Records.

While in Mexico, guitar-tech Phil Schaffart began filming Oberst and his group, and the result is a 60-minute documentary called One Of My Kind. The film chronicles the recording of Oberst’s eponymous album in Tepoztlan, Mexico, their 2008 world tour and the recording of Outer South in El Paso, Texas.

Causecast is very proud to announce that Conor Oberst and Phil Schaffart have donated this film to all of you. It will be available, starting April 15, for free download from Causecast.org.

Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band hope that as you enjoy this film, you’ll take a moment to donate, via Causecast, to a worthy cause of your choice."

Halestorm - "Takes My Life"

I've written and erased your name a thousand ways in my book,
I've tried to be unkind, maybe cause you to rewind,
And take a good hard look,
I try to take stand, but it seems to never end in this place,
I'm gnawed down to bone, by the time I get alone,
Do I even know my own face...

You confuse me, and correct me,
And it's fine, 'til someone takes my life,

I've caught you in the act, I fought to bring you back to my eyes,
I've left it all alone, saying, "someday you'll come home",
In my mind,
The other side of the fence always seems to bend to your view,
And I'm trying too hard so I'll just leave my card with you...

You confuse me, and correct me,
It's fine, 'til someone takes my life,
And then you'll break me, and remake me,
It's still fine, Until you take my life,

Get back...hey, hey, hey,
Oh Get back,
Then you'll take it, and reshape it,
Oh, just tell me I'm fine...fine..fine...YOU CONFUSE ME!
And correct me, you correct me,
And tell me I'm fine, fine, fine,
Until you take, you take, you take, you take,
Then you break me,
And remake me,
Oh, tell me I'm fine, fine, fine,
Until you take my life,

GET BACK!
GET BACK!
